Monarch Level 1 Motivational Interviewing and Coaching Tools for SW Ontario YMCA Healthcare Professionals ~ 14 & 16 June 2021 [via Zoom]

This introductory 2, half-day workshops provide a meaningful overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI) using The Monarch System’s unique approach which integrates MI with other impactful and evidence-based behaviour change practices such as coaching methods and key elements of behaviour change theories/applications. The workshop is restricted to the Settlement staff and Advisors of the Southwestern Ontario YMCA Sarnia and London offices. During the workshop, we will explore and help you to acquire applied techniques to use with your clients in your day-to-day interactions and work-related contexts. You will learn how to build motivation and transition that enhanced motivation into a strengthened and real commitment to behaviour changes. We will teach you different ways to use such elements as presence, competence views, compelling questions, reflective listening, readiness to change and change talk, tagging values onto desired behaviour changes, and moving with apparent-resistance in service of your clients’ integration needs for long- term goal setting and commitment to change. The event will be delivered virtually using Zoom format on two separate days, the 14th and 16th of June 2021 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on both days. While the Zoom format is not ideal, it does offer enough flexibility to do small-size (2-3 persons) group work; the two, half-days’ format decreases the concentrated screen time of a full day virtual session. This is a very interactive, applied workshop that builds in lots of opportunities for learning and practising MI skills and concepts.
