Monarch Level 1, Introductory Motivational Interviewing Workshop for the Memorial University Entry-to-Practice PharmD 4th year students ~ 15 Sept 2021 [via Zoom]

This half-day, 3-hour Motivational Interviewing (MI) workshop is a follow-up to the introductory half-day workshop Monarch did with this student group one year ago. We will continue to apply The Monarch System’s unique approach which integrates MI with other impactful and evidence-based behaviour change practices such as coaching methods and key elements of behaviour change theories/applications. The workshop is restricted to and developed for the Memorial University Newfoundland’s 4th-year Entry-to-Practice Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students. The entry-to-practice doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program is designed to prepare students who are beginning their pharmacy education for careers primarily in community and hospital settings, as well as pharmaceutical industries, pharmacy organizations, and educational environments. In this workshop, we will be focusing on using client values to leverage behaviour change and to instill a long-term commitment to behaviour changes. You will be learning and trying out skills such as providing advice with permission, drilling down or scaffolding on ‘what’s important’ in your clients’ lives, utilizing transparency, listening at levels 2 and 3, and assessing readiness/confidence to/in making health-related decisions and concomitant behaviour changes. Our event will be delivered virtually using Zoom format on the 15th of September 2021 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm Eastern time. This is a very interactive, applied workshop that integrates lots of opportunities for learning and practising MI skills and concepts. While the Zoom format is not ideal, it does offer enough flexibility to do small-size (2-3 persons) group work to learn and practice the skills and processes of MI.
