Monarch Level 1, Introductory Motivational Interviewing Workshop for the Memorial University Entry-to-Practice PharmD 3rd year students ~ 10 Sept 2021 [via Zoom]

This introductory, half-day, 3-hour level 1 introductory workshop provides a meaningful overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI) using The Monarch System’s unique approach which integrates MI with other impactful and evidence-based behaviour change practices such as coaching methods and key elements of behaviour change theories/applications. The workshop is restricted to and developed for the Memorial University Newfoundland’s 3rd year Entry-to-Practice Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students. The entry-to-practice doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program is designed to prepare students who are beginning their pharmacy education for careers primarily in community and hospital settings, as well as pharmaceutical industries, pharmacy organizations, and educational environments. We will be offering a window or basic introduction to learn how to build motivation and transition that enhanced motivation into a strengthened and real commitment to behaviour changes. We will teach you different ways to use such elements as relationship-building, dropping assumptions, adopting open-ended or powerful questions, using an empathetic approach, listening more adeptly to clients, and how to acknowledge or affirm effectively. Our event will be delivered virtually using Zoom format on the 10th of September 2021 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm Eastern time. This is a very interactive, applied workshop that integrates lots of opportunities for learning and practising MI skills and concepts. While the Zoom format is not ideal, it does offer enough flexibility to do small-size (2-3 persons) group work to learn and practice the skills and processes of MI.
