  • Monarch 2-day intensive Motivational Interviewing Workshop for MLHU public health nurses & management staff ~ 23 February and 4 March 2021 [via Zoom]

    23rd Feb 2021 9:00:am – 23rd Feb 2021 4:00:pm

This Monarch MI intensive introductory two-day session provides a similar approach to learning Motivational Interviewing as our basic, one-day level 1. What is very different in the 2-day workshop is the expanded and extensive practice and feedback opportunities that are particularly useful in the seamless transition of the learned tools and concepts to workshop participants’ practice lives. This workshop is restricted to the Middlesex-London Health Unit public health nurses and management staff, some of whom have taken MI training courses previously. Specifically, this two-day intensive workshop provides a meaningful overview of MI using the Monarch System’s unique approach which integrates MI with other impactful behaviour change practices such as coaching methods and key elements of behaviour change theories and applications. Most importantly, we will explore and help you to acquire and build on applied techniques to use with your clients in your day-to-day practice. You will learn how to build motivation and transition that enhanced motivation into a strengthened and real commitment to healthier behaviours. We will teach you different ways to use such elements as presence, competence views, compelling questions, reflective listening, change talk, tagging values onto desired behaviour changes, and shifting client overwhelm or apparent inability to move toward changes, all in service of your clients’ health-related behaviours in lifelong care. Numerous practice and feedback opportunities are integrated into the workshop to support the immediate integration of new tools within participants’ practice lives. The Zoom platform, while obviously not as personal as face-to-face workshop contact and interaction, the online format does have some excellent built-in features like breakout rooms so that participants can work in pairs and small groups with facilitator guidance and supervision when needed. In addition, during the 10 days between workshop dates, participants will be asked to practice some of the learned MI skills in their work-related client engagements prior to the 2nd workshop date; written feedback, perceptions of impact, and acquired learning will be utilized in finalizing the agenda for March 4th.
