  • Monarch Level 1 Intensive Motivational Interviewing Workshop for the Prescription to Get Active Group ~ 2 days, 22 & 29 January 2022 10:00 am to 4:30 pm Eastern Time both days [via Zoom]

    22nd Jan 2022 10:00:am – 22nd Jan 2022 4:30:pm

This introductory 2-day-intensive Monarch System Motivational Interviewing (MI) workshop is geared toward health practitioners working with the new Prescription to Get Active (RxTGA) initiative. The event provides a meaningful overview of MI using the Monarch System’s unique approach which integrates MI with other impactful and evidence-based behaviour change practices such as coaching methods and key elements of behaviour change theories/applications. Most importantly, we will explore and help you to acquire applied techniques to use with your participants in your day-to-day contacts. You will learn how to build motivation and transition that enhanced motivation into a strengthened and real commitment to behaviour changes. We will teach you different ways to use such elements as presence, competence views, compelling  questions, reflective listening, readiness to change and change talk, tagging values onto desired behaviour changes, and moving with apparent-resistance in service of your participants’ needs for longterm goal setting and commitment to change. The 2-day intensive introductory session takes place via Zoom on both days from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM (Eastern Standard Time) and includes extensive practice and feedback opportunities that are particularly helpful for the seamless transition of the tools to workshop personnel's practice lives. We also work with shifting client perspectives via integrating tools to use with participants who experience a sense of overwhelm or being stuck in an outdated or no longer useful pattern of behaviour. While the Zoom format is not ideal, it does offer enough flexibility to do small-size (2-3 persons) group work. In between the two workshop dates, workshop participants will be asked to engage in a learning assignment designed to engage in MI and observe the communication impacts. Registration is through the RxTGA group; for more information about the group, your eligibility to register, and/or the registration procedure, click here. If you have questions about the activity coaching program or the application form, please direct your inquiries to Jeff Tareta, Executive Director, Prescription to Get Active (RxTGA), at alberta@prescriptiontogetactive.com or call 1.866.212.7552 ext. 1.
