Monarch Level 1 Motivational Interviewing & Coaching Workshop for Dietetic Diploma students at Brescia University College ~ 6 June 2019

This introductory, full day Monarch Level 1 Motivational Interviewing (MI) session is designed for students in the Diploma in Dietetic Education and Practical Training program at Brescia University College. The Diploma in Dietetic Education and Practical Training is a one year professional, post-degree program for graduates with an honors degree in Foods and Nutrition within the last three years. This innovative Diploma is a comprehensive program that combines the rich learning experiences of academic courses with extensive practical training to prepare students for a career as a registered dietitian. The Monarch workshop provides a meaningful and hands-on, practical exposure to MI using the Monarch System’s unique approach. Our method integrates MI with other impactful behaviour change practices such as coaching methods and key elements of behaviour change theories/applications. Most importantly, we will explore and help students to acquire applied techniques to use with your patients in day-to-day practices. The dietetic diploma students will learn how to build motivation and transition that enhanced motivation into a strengthened and real commitment to healthier behaviours. We will teach you different ways to use such elements as presence, competence views, compelling questions, reflective listening, change talk, and tagging values onto desired behaviour changes, all in service of your clients’ nutrition and other health-related choices and behaviours in lifelong care. The workshop is closed to students in the Diploma Program.
